Stilthouses polder

These stilthouses will be situated in the project, Het Nieuwe Water in The Netherlands. They are located next to a dike, from which the houses can be reached by a bridge.

The houses are initially built on dry ground or in shallow water. The polder can however be used as a floodzone, while the houses stay dry even when the water rises. This way traditionally unsafe overflow areas can be used for dwellings
The dwellings are lifted above the water and thus utilize the area that would have been otherwise uninhabitable. The spatial dwellings are reached by footbridges, and are oriented on the surrounding landscape, as if they were giant goggles.
