Facade design floating Canal-houses, Zwolle, the Netherlands

This project consists of privately commissioned facade-designs for five floating canal-houses. Inspired by the traditional typology of the canal-house these dwellings are made floating in the canal, instead of alongside it. The proportions of the building in width and height were not very favourable, but by linking the houses and using the intermediate space between the floating bases some advantages were gained. The construction is almost identical for each of the 5 dwellings, with exception of the varying storey-height. Around this pre-determined structure each client can have his own facade designed by Waterstudio to suit his wishes.
